Koes Komo – Drawings and Paintings

Born on Java, (1980) Koes “Komo” Hatmoko studied Graphic Art and started his career as a multiple award winning mural artist. While working as a freelance designer, jury member of drawing competitions and as a fine artist, he enjoys making cartoons for both commercial- and non profit organizations, and illustrating children’s books.

Komo is always looking for different takes on reality and an original view on current events, never losing touch with his sense of humor and inner child. Colourful paintings and playful drawings are Komo’s trademark, and they are appreciated by the young and the old(ish) alike.

Over the past 5 years Komo has successfully exhibited in Bandung, Jakarta, Yogya and Semarang. Recently Komo relocated to Amsterdam for love, infiltrated the Dutch cartoonist community, works as a caricaturist and enjoys crashing live drawing events, of which this exhibition is the glorious result!

In 1999 a group of artists called EHBK (eerste hulp bij kunst = first aid for art) squatted Overtoom 301 and later bought the building
to maintain and improve its cultural resonance.
As we move into ever new ways to organise and shape our project,
we proudly look back on 12 years of innovation and creativity.
Come celebrate this rich history with us!

… a fertile mix of dance, music, film, exhibitions, installations,
technology, crafts, workshops, discussions, infotainment,
artists ateliers and a kulture kitchen (a non-profit vegan-organic canteen).

De Peper: Temporarily Closed from 15 September

Due to some bureaucracy with the Stadsdeel (local council) we have been forced to close for the next days, as well as next week. We are working hard to solve this so we are able to open again as normal.

Art Exhibition: Maria Kontodima ‘Just a dream away’

I remember myself always having a burning desire to travel.
Most of all for seeing new places and for the social perspective of meeting other people but sometimes just to escape from where I was. I often found myself during the sleepless nights dreaming with my eyes open that the “life” was somewhere else. And I was always surprised at meeting people who believed that the world stretches as far as the eye can see, until the edge of the horizon…
Every journey is a unique experience. New places, new people. But just cruising through real time and space is not enough. Seeing only with the eyes keeps you at a distance from what is beyond… And the most important is to feel. What makes your heart beat.
And this is what makes the trip not finish, though you are already back…

I was born in Germany and I grew up in Greece, where I come from.
I had my first lessons of photography and dark room in 1994 through the photographic team of the University of Thessaloniki. Later I became a member of the photoclub “Opseis” in Greece and I also participated in the exhibitions organized.
After much “come and go”, I moved to Amsterdam in August 2010.
Photography is for me a challenge for the interpretation of the world.
